Coconut Times: October 2001
Performance: Fager's Island October 2001
Brenda Golden

Come be amazed by the musical selections and instrumental skills of one of the hottest bands to hit the shore. Be sure to visit Fager's Island Saturday night to hear Carey Ziegler's Expensive Hobby. Regular readers of this column will know that I rave about them each (rare) time they visit because I want you all to experience a night of music from these talented individuals. Ziegler (formerly of Crack The Sky) plays bass in a most entertaining way and has a voice with an incredible range.

His partner up front is none other than the long, long-haired Andy Shriver who is one of the most expert and flamboyant guitarists in the business - and he can sing great too! Leaning comfortably against the wall you'll find barefoot Glenn Workman working magic on his keyboards, enabling the group to play unbelievable covers with studio quality on everything from David Bowie to the Beatles, Steely Dan, The Who, and even Frank Zappa. They should have their newly recorded CD of original material with them too, so I'm sure we'll hear some of that.

A phenomenal player is on the drums for Expensive Hobby - his name is Mark St. Pierre. Equally fantastic is the horn section manned by Dave Makowiecki - trumpet, Barry Caudill - sax, and J.-J. Gunning - trombone. Put them all together and you have one of the best bands, bar none, in the country. You're gonna love them, I promise you.
